Try Something Different

This blog was never meant to be political. Honestly, I started it as a way to escape what was happening around me.
I wanted a positive space—where I, you, we—could process what it means to be human. A place to feel things, think things, and say things without judgment. I’m a processor. I need to say things out loud, hear them, feel them, and then I’m done. That’s how I move through the world.
Sometimes that gets misinterpreted. Vocalizing becomes a label. “Well, you said…”Nope. In that moment, there was a cyclone of thoughts that just needed somewhere to go.
That’s probably why some of my recent posts have leaned political. I’ve just been processing. Because how could anyone—regardless of where they stand—not be affected by what’s happening? That’s not politics. That’s being a living, breathing human with empathy, compassion, and, yes, fears.
So today—no politics.Well… not exactly.
I’ve been fortunate to travel, and it genuinely excites me. As a lifelong learner, I love seeing how people live—the differences and the similarities. Those experiences have shaped me. They’ve taught me to embrace and celebrate diversity.
Of course I want the best for my family. But I also want the best for the women and families in the hills of Thailand. I want my driver in Roatán—who took me to meet his family so we could build a real connection—to thrive. There are so many people who have shown me kindness across the world, and I feel a responsibility to return that kindness by simply being a good human.
So in a world that feels increasingly emboldened by “my way is the right way,” can I challenge you to be brave?
Try something new.Try a new perspective.
It’s easy to fall into routines—the same meals, the same shows, the same voices shaping our thoughts. Comfortable? Yes. Expanding? Not always.
Trying something different doesn’t require a dramatic life overhaul. It can start small and still shift how you see the world.
Cook a recipe from a country you’ve never visited. Let unfamiliar spices fill your kitchen and remind you that comfort food exists everywhere—just with different ingredients and stories.
Watch a show made outside your usual bubble. Notice the pacing, the humor, the way stories are told. What feels “different” at first often turns into appreciation once you lean in.
Pick up a book written by someone whose background, beliefs, or experiences don’t mirror your own. Not to agree with everything—but to understand. Perspective is a muscle, and it grows stronger the more you use it.
Experiencing diversity isn’t about checking boxes or chasing trends. It’s about curiosity. It’s about realizing your way isn’t the only way—and that’s a good thing.
When you try something new, you don’t lose yourself. You add to yourself.
So explore. Taste. Listen. Read. And every now and then, let another perspective challenge your own.
That’s how we inch back toward each other. That’s where growth quietly begins.
